ON MARCH 4TH,2022 , THE KONRAD ADENAUER-STIFTUNG TALKED ABOUT THE RUSSIAN REVISIONISM AS THREAT TO INTERNATIONAL SECURITY. A COVERSATION WITH NILS WORMER AN INTERNATIONAL SECURITY EXPERT , THE PROGRAM EXPLAINED MORE ABOUT THE WAR. MUGISHA MUNTU A FORMER PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SAYS RUSSIA CAN’T WIN THE WAR.
WHAT IS KAS UGANDA?
The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung is a political foundation , closely associated with the Christian Democratic Union of Germany. Freedom ,Justice and solidarity are the basic principles underlying the work of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.
According to Nils Wormer ,Russia is attacking Ukraine because it cannot cope up with NATO. Ukraine had accepted the terms by NATO something that Russia couldn’t accept since Russia looks at NATO as a source of spies on their military work . Russia being close to Ukraine could make it easy to know whatever happen in the country.
Nils Wormer also says that the Russian President , Putin Vladmir feels his own people could ask why Ukraine is growing economically and yet Russia is not developing as much.
“He feels his own people could ask why Ukraine is growing economically , socially yet Russia is growing . ” said Nils Wormer
A ceremony that took place in the premises of KAS had members attending like Mugisha Muntu from ANT , Winnie Kizza still from ANT, and many other people who also attended the event .
“Even if he sends more troops , I think he will find a safety manner of retreating but he will not win the war.” says Mugisha Muntu
Mugisha like all other people who attended gave thoughts about the on going war and thought Russia doesn’t stand a chance to win the war since the Ukrainian’s have should love for their country by fighting for it.
Kevin Ochaya one of the people who attended said that the President of Ukraine might be killing his own people to gain sympathy from the European Countries.
The conversation gave information about the existing war in Russia and Ukraine and how the ongoing war might affect African countries .
DAMIAN’S E-WASTE MANAGMENT MODEL TO HELP IN PROPER CONTROL AND MANAGNENT OF E-WASTE IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES LIKE UGANDA
Majority of the people in society look at solid waste management . In this way the help conserve the environment by using paper bags instead of polyethene bags , use interlocking bricks instead of burnt bricks that call for deforestation. Many Ugandans have not looked into e-waste management like they have for solid waste management
Environment degradation is the deterioration in the environment quality from ambient concentration of pollutants and other activities and processes such as improper land use and natural disasters. Electronic Waste like Solid Waste needs to be properly managed to conserve the environment .
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW?
The term e-waste stands for electronic waste . Electronic waste includes computer systems unit, audio equipment, DVD players , video cameras ,microwaves , ovens , computer peripherals which have reached the end of their service functionality. Such devices are dumped or sold as scrap but the methods used to dispose off electronic waste are dangerous and need to be changed to methods that are profitable to end user’s of computers.
WHO IS DAMIAN SSERUKUMA?
Damian Sserukuma is a lecturer at Nkumba University majoring in Computing and Information Technology . He conducted a research about e-waste management and environment conservation in Entebbe . A research that finally concluded in 2015, Mr. Damian invented a model to help in conserving the environment through electronic use.
DAMIAN’S E-WASTE MANAGMENT MODEL
” What I am doing , I am looking at e-waste management , environment conservation and then I am also looking at an issue of solving a problem to do with low income earners for them to get services , to sum it all in computing we call it green computing .” says Mr. Damian
The gentleman whom I Found in the University’s studio talked me through e-waste reuse and how to handle it.
According to Mr. Damian , majority of the people don’t care about the final ending of the gadget they throw away after use. He proposed to me a question ” Where is the first phone you held in your life?” a question I didn’t have an answer too.
” Normally we buy brand new products , it will serve you until it reaches it’s life span and its rendered useless.” says Mr. Damian
According to Mr. Damian, not everything that is burred or burnt will be spoilt completely . He says that his target is to help save the because many things are shipped in Africa but there isn’t a proper recycler especially in Uganda.
From a thesis he submitted to the School of Business Administration in Nkumba University , Mr. Damian through reuse and refurbishing method created a functional TV set out of e-waste .
THE TELEVISION OUT OF E-WASTE
From an old laptop whose hard disc and motherboard were no longer functioning Damian Sserunkuma extracted LCD monitor from the laptop , a power connector pin from a faulty power adopter and a power supply from a Pentium 11 old computer whose hard disc was faulty . These were put together in addition to a mew cheap circuit board . The results showed that it is possible to create reliable multipurpose display unit which was used as an externally extended monitor.
The television which is fully fictional and has over 26 channels that can be viewed , Mr. Damian says that this doesn’t only reduce power consumption ,conserve the environment but also reduce cost for the low income earners since it is free and has many channels.
Mr. Damian also says that through e-waste , he has created art pieces like watches , dolls and still uses the art piece demonstrate the danger of e-waste .
He says he created a doll out of e-waste carrying heavy metal and it was bent to illustrate how dangerous electronic can be to a country
Mr. Damian says that he can create more and more but still he needs funds. He says that he work for anyone and create for them the same system.
He says that his dream is to create a company that collects e-waste from society and reuses it . He says that electronic waste that is still of use can be used to produce other devices .

On 23rd of March 2022, we got a chance to be mentored by Antonio Kisembo in the creation of our Word Press Accounts
The day that we all thought to have normal lectures , Our lecturer surprised us with a guest who was to teach us that on that day.
Begun with introducing himself, Mr. Antonio Kisembo took us through the Word press account creation like it’s a piece of cake .
how it started?
Our guest lecture taught us what a web site is and he zeroed down to two words a web and a site . From his lesson , a web is like a page and a site is location online. Web comes in form of pages and site give location to the pages created online.
For every news story that is published online it gets an online location from the page it has been published and from the site of the publisher.
SOME THE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
Language [coding]. For every story that is published from a website , it gets a certain code . This is because it’s the language that the computer understands
Layout. This is the way a website appears to the viewer . The layout includes the domain name from the publishers site and adddress.
Hosting. Hosting is like requesting to get permission and space from the site [word press] to give you access to upload personal information and news to your followers
Whatever you put online has a unique URL/host[Universal Resource Locator]
Navigation , A person who comes to your page must be able to navigate easily and see the news stories.
A class that has over 20 students gained knowledge on website creation. We all started knowing nothing but by end of class our brains were pumped to capacity with the word press creation.
According to Nakawooya Tracy Kia a student journalism and a shoe business owner, She says that creation of her account is now going to be a marketing place for her.
” I am going to use this word press account to market my shoes and give my clients latest information about new shoes on market and all “the best brands.” says Nakawooya Tracy
The creation of these word press accounts is like creation of employment to me . I can learn and create and as well upload news stories to my site anytime . I can reach out to society and write news stories.
The creation of the word press accounts fulfills my wish to amplify the voices in society by just writing about it and I publish it.
And like any other lecture we were given an assignment😁 and this the assignment. We were told to write our experiment in creating the account with word press.
Thank you for reading 🥰
Juliet Muteza a resident Makerere B Kikoni says since the prices of oil and soap went high her only option was to cheat so as to cater for her family
“My husband lives 3000shs and we have two children with him , in beginning the money could be enough since I could add 3000shs to make 6000shs but as of today it’s all in vain, ” Mrs. Juliet says
With two young children she has to cater , the rise of commodities has made it hard for since she can barely earn 7000shs in a day. She says her husband can try and give her money and he can try giving her 3000 but this is so small to buy food and the needs at home .
She says with the high price she has been forced to give herself men who come to her just because they can give her money to buy home commodities like soap , oil and food
“At times I go wash clothes from the community people and the remaining soap is what I use but it’s barely enough and sometimes we just don’t wash,” she continues to say
According to a report by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics , prices for manufactured goods and construction materials have in the last four months risen by 22% and 15% respectively . It continues to say that there is a general rise in producer prices known as factory gate prices . The notable increases are in mental products , with a 39.6% rise , soap and chemical with a 32% processed food with 23% and bricks and cement with 18%.
The increase in price has left many Ugandans failing to afford products because of the high prices . A bar soap is now at 10,000 yet it at 4500 . A fortune butto now only starts at 1000shs yet it could go as low as 300shs. This has made many Ugandans change their lifestyle according to one Rita Nalwogga she has largely been affected by the rise of soap . She continues to say that ever since the rise of prices she stopped washing she says she says she can’t afford keeping up with the expense
“This whole thing has taught me being dirty , I used to wash always but of recent , I can spend an entire month without washing and sometimes I don’t .” says Nalwogga
According to a report filed by the Hindu , retail prices of major edible oils have risen up to 48% over the last year and are driven by surging global prices and lower domestic production of soya bean which is India’s largest oil seed crop
Matia Walusimbi still a resident of Makerere Kikoni Nanfumbambi Road says that the government should not impose high taxes on these goods since some should not impose high taxes on these goods since some of them are locally made here. He says that reason for the increased prices is brought about by the increased taxes on the goods .
“When taxes on these goods are reduced , the goods will go back to the normal prices.” said Matia Walusimbi
The rise of oil and soap has affected many work areas such as schools , hotels and households as well since the two goods are used on a daily basis.
